Modular rigs

Seawell announces its first modular, mobile offshore drilling unit (MODU) - the 'Seawell Emerald' - to service the platform drilling industry

As CAPEX investment costs continue to rise; rental of a mobile drilling unit is an attractive alternative to expensive, fixed drilling facilities. It negates the need for costly upgrade/re-activation and there are no heavy maintenance and recertification costs during the production period

The Seawell Emerald is a breakthrough in the field - an innovative, modular design that offers operational flexibility and cost efficiency unrivalled by other mobile offshore drilling facilities on the market.

Seawell Emerald is designed to stand alone and can be rigged up on all offshore installations and perform all the drilling services from the top hole to TD, completions and Plug & Abandonment .
The modular rig package is lighter and more compact than alternatives, reducing  both the platform size required and the construction costs. And it can be  tailored to meet well-specific requirements.

The Emerald MODU represents the coming together of Seawell's people - with a wealth of experience and a deep, practical knowledge of the offshore drilling industry - and the ability of its engineering teams to conceive and develop groundbreaking technology.

The technology

This is a super single rack and pinion rig, combining a proven alternative method of conveyance with the latest in drilling technologies in a lightweight, compact, modular package.

The modular rig package has been split into three main components - basic drilling rig, active mud package and power generation system -allowing operators to select a configuration specific to their requirements.
