3D design
Seawell DFE uses 3D modelling in various stages of a project. The 3D tool most often used is Solidworks, which has full 3D modelling capability, including clash analysis, strength analysis (with the use of Finite Element Method - FEM) and visualization modules.
3D models are used to exchange information with both vendors and customers as well as informing internal discussions and the final, detailed design work. For large structural designs involving beams, Staad Pro is the applied in-house analysis tool.
A typical platform modification project also involves large layout modelling, including piping, equipment and structures - often based on input from site scanning techniques.
Our 3D layout modelling is created using the powerful 3D plant design tool PDMS. Seawell DFE has successfully been using PDMS in a range of offshore projects, to help improve efficiency of design, data exchange and solution effectiveness.
CAD drafting
The drafting group in DFE creates new drawings as well as revising existing drawings. For this work we use industry standard CAD programs such as Autocad and Microstation.
The choice of CAD program is almost always based on customer specifications. This work is relevant for all the different disciplines in engineering and includes schematic, overall layout and detailed drawings.
